For the ninth straight year, ACCA is teaming up with RIF to get books into the hands of children and families who need them most in our host city of Las Vegas.

All you have to do is bring a book that is appropriate for K-12 school children and drop it off on the tub outside the expo. If you don’t want to bother with toting a book along with you, you can also make a monetary donation.

Before the expo opens on March 5, ACCA will present all the book and money donations to Clark County READS, the local RIF partner that is this year’s recipient.

I=B=R Residential Hydronic Heating Installation and Design

Learn how you can take your installers to the next level with I=B=R. This learning lab will take you through every aspect of home hydronic heating – from boiler operation; selecting a boiler;  hydronic hot water heating systems to sizing; system design; and much more. This learning lab is a great refresher or intro to residential hydronic heating.

Hydronic Cooling Options

Hydronics has long been known for providing superior heating comfort. But “what about cooling?” Today, there are several hardware options available for small scale chilled water cooling. This session will describe several benefits of small scale chilled water cooling.  It will go on to show a variety of system configurations for cooling-only systems, as well as systems that integrate chilled water cooling along with hydronic heating. You will learn some novel approaches using the latest hydronic design techniques and hardware options.

Hydronic-Based Air-To-Water Heat Pump Systems
John Siegenthaler, P.E., Appropriate Designs

The HVAC industry is abuzz with discussion of geothermal heat pump systems.  In the right situations, these systems can yield excellent performance, but such performance often comes at a significantly higher installed cost, and more complicated installation logistics relative to other options.  One option is the air-to-water heat pump. This session will compare the performance of such heat pumps to geothermal heat pumps in various climates. It will go on to show novel methods for configuring heat pumps along with hydronic distribution systems for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water production.

Then on Tuesday evening, ACCA’s Radiant & Hydronics Council will be hosting a reception as part of the Ultimate Block Party in the wine rooms. Join the staff and the RHC for cocktails and networking before the Chairman’s Banquet.

What resources are available to support being prepared to participate in the QA program? This session provides detailed information to help you get ready.

The ACCA House of Pressure Theater, which is presented by Comfort Institute, visually demonstrates pressure and air flow dynamics within a residence, using pressure diagnostics. It is a model of a single-family home, made of a clear, high-strength Lexan. The interior of the House can be viewed from all four sides. It gives the presenter the ability to create and control air flow with working scale reproductions of the mechanical air distribution systems that are found in most homes.

The House features an operable forced air duct system with adjustable duct leakage and closable interior doors. It also includes a clothes dryer, bathroom fan, fireplace, and water heater. There are smoke generators in the water heater and the fireplace to demonstrate the dangers of back-drafting and a smoke generator in an exhaust pipe in the garage to show the danger of CO infiltration from a garage into conditioned space.

ACCA Pressure House Theater Sessions:

We Still Have Dust!

Attend this session and learn little known facts about dust sources, settling rates, and how duct leakage and closing interior doors often create negative pressures that pull contaminated air in from attics and other dirty spaces. The “House of Pressure” will be used to demonstrate the effects on building pressure from a variety of mechanical systems. You will learn about new products and services progressive ACCA members across the nation are now selling to reduce callbacks, and increase customer satisfaction & profits.

We Still Have High Utility Bills!

Attend this session and learn why the highest efficiency heating and cooling equipment is actually the most affected by pre-existing duct leakage and undersized ductwork. The “Duct Simulator” and the “House of Pressure” will be used to demonstrate how duct and envelope leakage often increases with variable speed fans and 2-stage equipment. You will learn why profitable duct renovations or replacement are become increasingly essential to ensure homeowners get the high efficiency and energy savings they are paying for. You will also learn other ways to help homeowners, who already have the highest efficiency equipment, save even more!

Oh Boy, New Toys!

Attend this session and get a management level introduction and short demonstration of the key test instruments now being used:  the blower door, duct air-tightness tester, infra-red camera and airflow / pressure / combustion safety tools. You will have the opportunity after the presentation to gain some hands-on experience and gain more detailed knowledge if desired.

So, How Do We Make Money In Home Performance?

Not yet taken the plunge into Home Performance Contracting (HPC)? Attend this session to learn the most effective implementation strategies being followed by ACCA service/replacement contractors around the country. Come and gain insights into how others have done it so you won’t have to re-invent the wheel!

Each of these sessions will be repeated several times during the expo hours. Make sure you stop by the ACCA House of Pressure Theater to learn more about home performance and how your company can benefit from it.

North American climates vary. The Southwest is very hot and very dry; the Southeast is very humid; and the rest of the country is mixed.
