John Siegenthaler, P.E., Appropriate Designs
The HVAC industry is a buzz with discussion of geothermal heat pump systems. In the right situations, such systems can yield excellent performance, but such performance often comes at a significantly higher installed cost, and more complicated installation logistics relative to other options. One such option is the air-to-water heat pump. This session will compare the performance of such heat pumps to geothermal heat pumps in various climates. It will go on to show novel methods for configuring such heat pumps along with hydronic distribution systems for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water production.
